OUR VISION FOR YACK STATION
Yack Station has evolved from the wish to create a work and gallery space for artists and craft persons. Indi Architects have taken on this project with the rather unique approach of reconstructing a warehouse environment with larger than life volumes. This sustainable approach to architecture commences with locating a suitable structure which can be dismantled, relocated and reconstructed, largely in the original form. The site is the former yard of the Yackandandah Railway Station.
We aim to co-locate artists from a wide range of visual and sculptural arts in a purpose built warehouse environment which allows work on large pieces or in shared spaces to suit. This allows artists to meet informally with other creative souls and share gallery space if desired. The critical mass of artists will create a “Destination” for tourists and art lovers alike. The difference from a traditional gallery is the artists will be working on site.
Many existing artists live in the historic township and surrounding neighbourhood creating a rich artistic culture.
These are some images which will help you picture what we are working towards.
