YACK STATION'S VISION
Yack Station evolved from the wish to create a work and gallery space for artists and craft persons. In 2012 -2013 Indi Architects of Yackandandah, took on this project with the rather unique approach of reconstructing a warehouse environment with larger than life volumes. This sustainable approach to architecture commenced with locating a suitable structure which could be dismantled, relocated and reconstructed, largely in the original form. The site is the former yard of the Yackandandah Railway Station.
Artists from a wide range of visual and sculptural arts are located in individual studio spaces within this larger warehouse environment. This allows artists to meet informally with other creative souls and share gallery space if desired. The critical mass of artist creates a “Destination” for tourists and art lovers alike. The difference from a traditional gallery is the artists will be working on site. The existing artists come from the historic township of Yackandandah as well as from the surrounding neighbourhood area, creating a rich artistic culture. |
